People With Migraines Are More Predisposed To Have Depression
Patients suffering from headache, in particular migraines, are in a greater number predisposed to suffer from depression, feel exhausted, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The medical investigation involved 1090 women who buy seroquel online at headache clinics in four US states. Of the man surveyed, 656 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 665 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were tested with migraines.
The clinical research found woman with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with incidental headache to report symptoms of major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.
Among people diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical trial found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the patient also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms may incite or be a manifestation of major Psychotic Depression in women with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax online and Psychotic Depression will heighten pain perception,” said clinical investigation author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This connection between migraine and major Major Depression suggests a prevalent neurobiology.”
Tietjen says study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Psychotic Depression would be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Indifferent of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Manic Depression complicates headache treatment and can stir up poorer results for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.
The clinical investigation was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American patients are affected by headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to improving people care through enlightenment and medical investigation. A neurologist is a health care provider specialized on diagnosing, curing and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and frequent sclerosis.
